Plot: Chief of Salatri Group (Tarun Arora) wants to takeover 12,000 government schools and privatise them. The ministers are hand-in-glove with him. Now, only a revolution (Kranti) can stop this.
Review: Kranti Rayanna (Darshan Toogudeepa) is a successful entrepreneur living in Europe. His choppers, fancy cars and lake-view house indicate that he is a larger-than-life persona. He soon gets a call from his teacher (B Suresha), inviting him to attend the centenary celebrations of the government school back in India. Darshan, who has been away from home for over 20 years, over his father’s diktat, finally returns to homeland.
On the day of centenary celebrations, the government school comes crashing down to the ground. The onus is now on Kranti to uplift not just one government school, but also all the government schools in the state.
The film is very predictable from the beginning and has a very formulaic approach towards the screenplay. The first half of the film is spent in introducing characters and giving out statistics about the plight of government schools in state. The second half is about how Kranti manages to win the war against the Salatri Group.
Darshan is back after a hiatus of over 2 years and fans naturally had built up huge expectations from Kranti, and he lives up to it. He has shouldered the film, which is marred by average script and dialogues.
There are only a very few whistle-worthy dialogues and the film runs completely on Darshan’s star power. Rachita, who has completed a decade in the industry, deserved a bit more than just being an arm candy and an eye candy.
She looks gorgeous, especially in the Bombe song, but towering Darshan takes over the screen in every single scene. The biggest highlight of the film is Ravichandran, who plays Darshan’s father Bhargav Rayanna. His silent demeanour is a show-stealer. Samyukta Hornad, Ravishankar, Achyut Kumar, Umashree and Mukhyamantri Chandru have played their parts with finesse. Kranti needed a strong villain.
Tarun Arora as a shrewd businessman isn’t very convincing, due to which the tug of war feels one-sided. There is no good fight in store for the fans who have waited so long to witness Darshan’s action on silverscreen. Harikrishna has done an average job both as director as well as composer.
The film somehow gets too preachy by the end and doesn’t serve that ‘climax catharsis’ to fans. The makers did promote it as an ‘edutainment’ film, but again, with no long-term solution offered to a very relevant problem the film focuses on, the climax gets too bland.
The movie has essential ingredients for a commercial masala entertainer and also manages to send a message towards the end of the film. But, despite this, Kranti is strictly for Darshan fans.
