Qualification to study Marine Engineering

In Bangladesh, 4-year and 2-year diploma courses on marine engineering are offered in government and non-government institutions. If you want to do these courses, you have to pass the SSC or equivalent examination from any department, apply for the admission test and pass. A student can usually participate in the admission test for 3 consecutive years.

To apply to Bangladesh Marine Academy, one has to pass secondary and higher secondary from the science department. Both exams must have a GPA of 3.50 separately. In addition, higher secondary subjects and mathematics must have a separate 3.50 GPA. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 or IELTS score of 5.5 in English.

Physical fitness is taken very seriously to become a cadet. As a Marine cadet, boys should be at least 5.4 inches and girls 5.2 inches. Cadets are also admitted to this institution in accordance with certain rules of sight. To be a Marine Captain, you have to be 6/7 and in the case of Marine Engineering, you have to be 8/18.



Cadets are selected in five stages:

  • Physical fitness and swimming tests
  • Interview (VIVA)
  • Special vision and color vision tests
  • Medical examination

Applications are invited from interested candidates through the country's leading newspapers. No application is accepted until the prescribed form is submitted by the Academy. Candidates have to apply anew every year. Applications for the next year for the purpose of one's candidacy will not be considered in the following year. In the case of recruitment of cadets, no travel or daily allowance will be acceptable to the candidates for their travel or for postponed age.

Food: Food is provided to the trainees at Bangladesh Marine Academy. In the morning breakfast is served with eggs, bread / parota, butter/jam/jelly, and tea. Also, tea, singara, biscuits, bread are given before lunch. Good meals are also available at noon, evening, and night.
