I woke up at night to see Srijit Mukherjee's much-awaited web series "Rabindranath never came here to eat". For those who don't know, this series is based on the first book of the Rabindranath thriller series written by Mohammad Nazimuddin, a Bangladeshi original thriller writer. The book series has two episodes so far and the third part will be coming soon.


The books I read were 7 So the expectations for the series were huge. When a name like Sreejith Mukherjee comes upon him as a maker, what is the way without hope? But I will discuss the extent to which that expectation is justified.


I am disappointed to see the making of the Rabindranath series, to put it simply. I did not expect to get such a messy, flat, and amateurish job from Srijit Mukherjee, the writer, and producer of cult classics like Chatushkon, Baishe Shravan, Hemlock Society, Rajkahini, Master of Thriller in Bengali.

 

Story:

The story of this series is fairly similar to the story of the novel. He can be called as. The story of the series had enough thriller elements. But what good is a series if it has a good story?


Screenplay:

Usually, I discuss this topic with the story. Because the quality of the story & screenplay in most of the content is not the same but at least close. This series is absolutely exceptional in this respect. There are so many weaknesses in the screenplay of this series that it will become a list when you start talking.


Another mystery is how Srijit Mukherjee, famous for his non-linear screenplay writing, can write such a messy and weak screenplay. Although linear (with the exception of some flashback-type conversations), some novels have succeeded in arranging a non-linear format. He has done a lot in some places. To give a small example, this is not a major spoiler of the story, Atar Ali and Nirupam Chanda (Noor Chafa in the book) go to meet Ramakant Kamar at night, meet him and talk to him while standing in front of the zamindar house. Shares an incident about Zuberi (those who have read the book know what incident I am talking about).


After saying that, Sin and Atar Ali from that narration do not return to the current conversation of Nirupam Chand. Eklafe Sin goes to Nirupam Chander's hotel room. As if in the middle of the conversation. Even Atar is not given time to understand whether the incident is over. However, after that, the two incidents started showing side by side, one of which was to leave the hotel on a moonlit night and take a bicycle somewhere, and enter Atar Ali's Falu's house.


Now when is the timeline of this event that started in a hurry? The scene we saw a little earlier, Atar Ali and Nirupam Chand together before his incident? Or later? What if later that same night? Or another night? Nirupam Chand was out in the previous movie. How does he get out of the hotel again in his next scene? How did he and the perfume become different? All these things can be understood only if you have read the book before. If you don't read the book, you are bound to get stuck.


Another weak point of the screenplay is its flat narration style. The information that had the opportunity to give a lot of cleverly through the different ingredients of the story has been given very flatly through the dialogues of the characters. Think? Director KS Khan is praising Nirupam Chander in front of Nirupam Chander with Khukku Kashanbish to reach the audience with information about Nirupam Chander (Noor Chafa).


The third weak point of the screenplay is its forcefeed adaptation. No, no, I'm not in trouble with adaptation at all. In fact, when the series was announced for adaptation in West Bengal, I was kind of interested to see how they did this adaptation because there were several issues in the story that was Bangladesh sensitive, which are possible in the context of Bangladesh.


And to say that the adaptation has been disgusting. The director has cut out some of the issues that were a problem in the adaptation, and to explain the ones that he has left, he has made a messy adaptation of Epar Bangla, Opar Bangla, which he thought he could have cut.


Wherever Srijit Mukherjee has given a hand in the original story, he has gone there. That's why the mysterious boy inside the Rabindranath restaurant turns into a smiling waiter, not because he doesn't recognize Mushkan Special, but because he asks if the food is hot. Sitting down, before Nirupam Chand Atar asked Ali anything about Mushkan, he said to himself, "Why do you want to know about Betty?"


Seeing the crocodile sitting next to the crocodile next to Pachil, Rahman Mia takes Nirupam Chand as Atar Ali's "sir" without any connection. How much more.


The running speed of the series is also not right. 15-20 minutes running speed at the start of the series is very fast. Especially after eating out of the restaurant, the story continues to run. Beginning's build-up is not exactly like. Then in the middle of the series, the screenplay becomes so stretchy that you have to drag it in some places.


Direction & Camera Work:

There were so many complaints about the screenplay that what else can I write about direction. However, all I can say is that Sriji Mukherjee was the weakest director I met. I didn't get the least bit of creativity in the whole series. On the contrary, I saw so many amateur works in various scene cuts and incorporations that it would have been difficult to accept it as the work of Srijit Mukherjee if I had not known in advance. And the camerawork in the whole series was also very flat. If you are a fan of thriller films from various industries in the South then you must be quite disappointed.


Dialog:

The weakest part of the whole series was its dialogue. After watching the whole series I can't remember a powerful dialogue newly incorporated out of the book. On the contrary, many powerful dialogues in the book have been completely covered up. Not that there is no dialogue outside the book or at all. There are new dialogues but in those to Srijit Mukherjee has used his creativity like a screenplay.


Character Development, Casting & Acting:

The character who has been treated unfairly in the whole series is Atar Ali's character. A total of 30% of the characters in Arc's books are shown in the series. An episode dedicated to him could have been given if he wanted, I don't know what the director thought.


Another frustration in character development is not caring about side characters. Those who have seen the Mahanagar series, how much importance was given to the smallest characters. However, in this series, no attention was paid to the small but important characters like restaurant waiter, tea shop Rahman Mia, Ramakant Kamar, hotel manager, police station SP, OC.


In terms of casting, before watching the series, Muskan Juberi, although he is uncertain about Badhan, has adapted quite well. However, throughout a large part of the series, the director did nothing but walk with him and sing Rabindra Sangeet. In the next part too, Muskan Zuberi has rarely been able to bring out the natural mystery, although the blame lies with the director.


I don't want to say anything about the casting of Rahul Bose in the character of Noor Chafa Thukku Nirupam Chand. Because Srijit Mukherjee has taken the character of Noor Chafer, known in my book, in a very different taste in the cycle of adaptation. Which cannot be called good-bad specific. However, in some places his body language was deficient. A major revelation occurs at one point in the series. Which, of course, made the video an overnight sensation. Anyway, Rahul Bose's body language dialogue delivery in that movie did not suit me at all.


The worst casting of the series was Anirban Bhattacharya's casting as Atar. Anirban is the last man I will imagine as Atar Ali. Quite the opposite of the description of perfume in the book Dry, Bangla, slim shape, in contrast to medium height, Anirban is quite tall, healthy and handle is not at all. According to the arc of the story, Nirupam Chanda is the dominant character and Atar Ali is the subordinate character in the whole journey. On the contrary, in the whole series, Anirban, who has surpassed Rahul Bose in stature, goes to different places, but in that journey, Anirban seemed to be dominant over Rahul.


Writing with side characters is not given much importance so I don't want to say anything about their casting. Just like the acting of Anjan Dutt (who can't even be called a side character, can be called an extended cameo) as Kashanbish (KS Khan in the book), maybe he has improvised himself on the creation of Srijit Mukherjee himself.


Music & Background Sound:

In the case of web series, intro theme song or music is a very interesting subject for me. The intro theme of this series, Santa, was nothing short of extraordinary, but it was good. However, the video clip added to it is completely useless.


As music, various Rabindra Sangeet has been used throughout the series which seems to fit in some places but after a while it becomes stretchy. Another thing is that since the series is being taught in such a way that the songs are being sung by Mushkan Juberi, it would be better to do the sync of the song in the tone of normal voice. Speaking of which, when you suddenly sing a song, the voice becomes crystal clear 2-3 steps more. As the matter is repeated, it is audible.


As a thriller series, the BGM that was needed in the intense times was not even a speck in this series. What was there is not remarkable?


Climax:

The climax scene of this series has to be said separately. There could not have been a worse execution than this climax. I think I'm watching a 90's movie or a Star Jalsa serial. The climax performance is extremely disappointing.
