Career: HT Imam, the political advisor to the Prime Minister, is no more. He died at the Combined Military Hospital at 1am on Wednesday (March 3).
The matter of Janazah and the burial of the deceased will be informed later. HT Imam had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. He was admitted to CMH due to his recent illness. He was under treatment for about two weeks.
After graduation from Dhaka University, he started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Economics, Rajshahi Government College. He joined the Pakistan Civil Service in 1962. As a member of the Pakistan Civil Service, he held important positions in various parts of then East Pakistan. Initially, he was appointed as Assistant Commissioner in Rajshahi Collectorate from 1982-1973.
He was later promoted and served as Naogaon Sub-Divisional Sub-Divisional Administrator or SDO for the period 1983-1984. He was then transferred as SDO of Narayanganj subdivision and served for about a year. In 1975, he was appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner in the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's Office.
During the war of liberation in 1971, he was the first cabinet secretary of the caretaker government of Bangladesh. After 16 December 1971, he continued to serve as the Cabinet Secretary in independent Bangladesh. Until August 28, 1975, he was the Cabinet Secretary. From 1974 to 1974, he was the project director of the Public Administration Training Center in Savar. From 1974 to 1976 he was the Secretary of the Ministry of Roads and Communications. He was the Planning Secretary from 196 to 197. He has also served as a member of the Planning Commission. He has also served as the Executive Director of the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority.
