Space Elevator - Science and Space News
Hello, wake up! It sounds dramatic but is real that scientists are trying hard to build an elevator traveling towards the space station!! Instead of passing or carrying cargo/people via rockets🗼, scientists are thinking to do it in a more simple way via elevator. This idea has been pioneered by the Russian scientist named, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in the year 1895. Followed by it, in the year 1960, an engineer named, Yuri Artsutanov from Russia talked about a more modern version, and lately, in 1975, Jerome Pearson had published a technical paper on this theme. Therefore, we can blame Russia for this awesome concept 😯😯

The rocket used to be fast but the elevator will be slower 🐢 while traveling which may end up to a month to reach the ultimate destination. Around 6 Billion USD is estimated to build this innovation but ultimately it will be a cost-saver in the long run as rockets are more expensive to handle. A space elevator cable on Earth rotates along with the Earth's rotation. So, in the direction opposing the downward gravitational force, the cable and objects attached to it will undergo centrifugal force upwards. The higher the object is positioned up the cable, the less the Earth's gravitational pull, and the greater the centrifugal force upward due to the rotation, so that less gravity is opposed by more centrifugal force.
