Saumya Sarkar's father Kishori Mohan Sarkar was a school teacher. His mother Namita Rani Sarkar was a housewife. His mother wanted Soumya Sarkar to be a doctor, but she wanted to be a school teacher like her father. However, no one's hopes were fulfilled.
Nazmul Hossain Papon, the president of the Bangladesh cricket national team, visited Satkhira in 2010 and saw the Saumya Sarkar play and brought him to Dhaka. He played a match against Khulna for Dhaka Division and then played in the under-16 cricket team that same year. He played in the Under-19 cricket team again in 2012 and in this Under-19 team he played an unbeaten inning of 209 runs off 135 balls against Qatar.
